Barcroft Estates has exchanged contracts with Rushmoor Borough Council for the redevelopment of Devereux House on Albert Road, Farnborough. The site was formerly occupied by Devereux House Residential Care Home and Day Care Centre, which had served the local community for more than 40 years before closing in 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic made continued operation financially unsustainable. The closure left an important community facility vacant and created an opportunity for the site to be brought back into productive use.
Barcroft’s proposals will transform the redundant site through the delivery of a new 66-bed purpose-built care home. The project presents a complex and sensitive design challenge, retaining the façade of the original building while comprehensively redeveloping the remainder of the site. The resulting scheme will preserve an important element of Devereux House’s character while providing a modern, high-quality and fit-for-purpose care facility, bringing this long-standing care site back into use for the local community.
